Biographical / Historical

A gift of Richard Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence owned property in Elizabethtown, NY which he permitted the college to use for retreats and for the Adirondack Institute. The Institute was establish in the 1970’s by Mr. Lawrence and by Mark Gelber of Special Programs to offer courses featuring the Adirondack region. One of the goals of the Institute was to establish an academic presence in the Elizabethtown area of the Adirondacks. The Lawrence family papers were given by Mr. Lawrence in the hope that a student would one day take an interest in researching the life and times of Mr. Lawrence’s father, Richard W. Lawrence, an influential Republican businessman and civic leader.
