Scope and Contents

The majority of the collection is made up of published booklets and pamphlets dealing with Skidmore and Professor Hook from 1944 to 1972. There are some outlying documents dated from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1990s, however the bulk lies between the 1940s and the 1970s. Subjects covered include publications by Professor Hook and collegues and publications about Skidmore College. The materials are primarily booklets and other loose paper records.

Biographical / Historical

Sabra J. Hook was a professor of biology at Skidmore from the 1940s to the 1970s. She, along with the Women's Studies Committee, was responsible for creating the E. Beverly Field Gender Studies Award in honor of fellow biology professor E. Beverly Field. In 1975 Professor Hook was a speaker at the Skidmore commencement ceremony and at some point during her tenure earned an honorary doctorate.
